More walking you say? OK!

So I rushed out after work to buy Olivia her own walker toy.  And low and behold, not more than 2 seconds after PJ got it put together, she was up and moving!  Enjoy.

Back to work

Wow, I cannot believe my baby girl is going to be 3 months tomorrow!  She’s developing so much and learning new things every single day.  I love watching her grow and turn into such a funny little person!  And, as she turns 3 months, it also signals that I’m headed back to work.  Oye vey.  So here’s the plan.  I’ve been advised by many of my working mom friends not to return to work on a Monday.  They suggest going back on a Wednesday or Thursday so you can get your feet wet and not feel totally overwhelmed by a full week.  So, I’m taking their advice and I’m back to work this Wednesday.

The great news is that I’m only going to be working 4 days a week with Friday’s off.  This is 4, regular 8 hour days, not 4 10’s.  I’m glad we decided on this and that my company was willing to be flexible.  So that being said, we had to find someone to watch Olivia for 4 days.

Lucky for us, PJ’s folks are nearby and are willing and excited to help out!  They will be watching her 2 days a week and we also hired a nanny (Rachel) to watch her the other 2 days.  I’m really excited about this plan since it gives Olivia experience with several different people throughout the week.  It also get’s her out of our house for 2 of those days at Mimi and Ed’s which I think will be really great for her.  My fingers are crossed that our little plan works well.  I’m breathing easier knowing we have family helping for 2 days and I HOPE HOPE HOPE that Rachel turns out to be a wonderful fit and will stay with us for the long haul.  We’ve already talked to her about coming with us to my brother’s wedding in September, so fingers crossed that I won’t have to seek out another nanny anytime soon.

And how am I feeling about going back you ask?  Well, I’m trying to be as positive as I can about it, but I know it’s going to be tough.

The Positive:

  • I’ll start using my brain again.  I really need to be challenged again and think about things other than changing diapers, feeding and sleeping (though I’ll probably always think about the sleeping).
  • I’m also looking forward to dictating my day according to what I need to do, exactly when I need to do it (i.e. no more waiting until 2pm to eat lunch).
  • And I’m also looking forward to more adult interaction.  It can be very isolating being at home for days on end, even when we do get out for errands.
  • Getting paid!!  WAHOO!  Mama will be contributing again!  I’ve HATED not being paid for 3 months, so I’ll be happy to see that money hit our bank account.

The not so positive:

  • I’m going to miss my little peanut more than words can describe.  Everyone says it gets easier and I know it will, but it’s gonna hurt for a while…no getting around that one.  After spending so much time with her EVERY day, I just can’t imagine not seeing her for a full work day.
  • Working all day and taking care of the little string bean is going to make for a really long day but I know I can do it…it’s just going to take a little adjustment.  PJ is a great help and thank god we have each other.  I don’t know how single mom’s do it.
  • When the heck am I going to get to the gym?  PJ goes in the morning so I really thought I would go after work, but I know myself and I’ll want to zip right home to see Olivia.  I’m hoping that if I get to work by 8, I might be able to sneak out around 4:30 and head to the gym for a quick workout.  Otherwise, I guess I can workout during the day, but that’s not really my favorite thing to do.  It’s these logistics that keep me up at night.

There’s always a new twist and turn with this parenting thing.  It certainly keeps us on our toes and so far I think PJ and I have done a great job balancing our new lives.

I’ll be back tomorrow with the monthly picture update!  Olivia also has a quick weight check with the doctors office tomorrow so hopefully we get better news about her growth rate.  The barfing has gotten much better I think so I’m encouraged by what we should hear tomorrow.

Wish us all luck on Wednesday!
